
FEDPODAM Tasks PR, Media Staff on Accuracy, Objectivity
Members of the Information and Protocol Unit, staff of the Mass Communication Department, and staff of FEDPODAM Radio at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu have been charged to be proactive and objective while maintaining accuracy and balance in the discharge of their duties.
The charge was given during a one-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu under the Office of the Technical Assistant to the Rector, Dr. Sabiu Shittu.
Lead facilitator and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Yobe State Council, Comrade Rajjab Muhammad, presented a paper on “Information and Protocol.”
In his presentation, Comrade Rajjab stressed the need for public relations managers to engage their publics through timely communication channels such as press releases, newsletters, and other PR platforms.
He noted that each public requires a different method of communication and approach, emphasizing the importance of tailoring messages to specific audiences.
Comrade Rajjab listed the publics of PR to include students, staff, and management, as well as the media, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the wider community.
Declaring the training open, the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Lawan Cheri, who represented the Rector, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, said the training was aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills for effective discharge of their duties.
Dr. Cheri described knowledge as an ocean, stating that no individual can lay claim to its entirety. He urged the participants to remain open to continuous learning, noting that the dynamic nature of media and public relations demands constant updating of skills and knowledge to remain relevant and effective in their roles.
He commended the participants for their active involvement and insightful contributions throughout the training. Dr. Cheri encouraged them to translate the lessons into practical action, stressing that the real impact of the workshop would be measured by how well they applied the principles of accuracy, objectivity, and balance in their day-to-day communication and public engagement duties.
Also in attendance were the Acting Station Manager of FEDPODAM Radio, Mallam Muhammad Wakil; Head of the Information and Protocol Unit, Mallam Nura Muhammad Nguru; Head of Engineering Department, Engineer Shuaibu Madu Fika; staff of the Mass Communication Department; and some students of the institution.
