Accessing Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir's One-Year Developmental Stride
In just one year, Dr. Ibrahim Bashir Bello has etched his name into the annals of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu's history as a transformative leader who hit the ground running. Appointed as the institution's fifth Rector on February 4, 2025, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Bello has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the polytechnic's growth, anchored on inclusivity, transparency, and collective responsibility.
His administration's mantra, "I came to work," is more than just a slogan – it's a call to action that has resonated with staff and stakeholders. Through collaborative meetings with Management, Academic Board, and unions, Dr. Bello has fostered a sense of shared ownership, driving progress on multiple fronts.
The polytechnic's physical landscape has undergone a facelift, with notable improvements around the Library, Academic Affairs Complex, and other areas. The Rector's focus on completing abandoned projects has yielded results, creating a more conducive learning environment.
A major milestone is the operationalisation of FEDPODAM FM (92.5), the polytechnic's radio station. This platform will not only disseminate information but also provide hands-on training for students, cementing the institution's commitment to community engagement.
Dr. Bello's inclusive leadership has been marked by town hall meetings with staff, unions, and stakeholders. His open-door policy has created an environment where concerns are heard and addressed, fostering trust and cooperation.
The administration has recorded significant academic wins, including successful accreditation exercises by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Sixty-one programmes received full accreditation, aligning with Yobe State's developmental needs.
Student welfare and safety have been prioritised, with hostel renovations, enhanced security, and improved welfare measures. The Rector's support for sports development has also yielded dividends, with the polytechnic participating in national events.
The Federal Polytechnic Damaturu Staff School has also benefited from the Rector's initiatives, with additional classrooms and restroom facilities constructed, and an 18-seater vehicle donated to support academic delivery.
The polytechnic's healthcare delivery has been strengthened through the upgrade of the Polytechnic clinic, including enrolment under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YCHSMA).
As Dr. Bello charts the polytechnic's future, he's fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity. With his visionary leadership, Federal Polytechnic Damaturu is set to achieve greater heights, driven by a committed team and stakeholders.
